Your business number
Until you set one up, texts to your customers come from FieldOS's shared number. A business number is a local number that belongs to your business: customers can text it and call it, and you can put it on your truck and your cards. It's included in your plan.
Setting it up takes about five minutes. Phone carriers have to approve business texting, and FieldOS handles that paperwork for you.
- In the sidebar, click Settings, then Business number → at the top, and click Get started. (Or click Get started on the card on your dashboard.)
- Enter an area code and click Search, then Select the number you want. Nothing is bought yet.
- Fill in Tell us about your business, then click Continue. Enter your legal business name exactly as it is on your tax registration. If you're a sole proprietor without an EIN, choose that option; you won't be asked for one.
- Read the terms, tick I confirm I'll only text customers who gave me their number for service, and click Submit.
Set it up on the web. On the phone, tap More, then Settings: under Business number you can see your number and where it's up to, and Manage on the web opens the setup.
Your business page has to be published before you can submit, because carriers check it during approval.
While carriers review it
- Calls work right away. Calls to the number ring your business phone.
- Texting switches over when carriers approve it, usually in 3 to 5 business days. Until then, texts keep going out from the shared number.
- If carriers need something corrected, Business number in Settings says Carriers need a correction and what they asked for. Click Edit details, fix it, and click Resubmit.
The first text a customer gets from your new number tells them it's yours, so they can save it.
If you change plans
On a plan without a business number, texts go back to the shared number. Your number is held for 30 days, and moving back to a plan that includes it within that time gives it back. After 30 days it's released.
